Guyana, located in Northern South America, is officially known as the Co-operative Republic of Guyana. Guyana is the 4th smallest nation in South America. The country is a member of the World Trade Organization. The economy of Guyana is based largely on agriculture and mining and most of the population is engaged in farming. Most of the export revenues are generated through sugar, rice, bauxite and gold. Mineral resources in the country include bauxite, manganese, diamonds, copper, iron ore, molybdenite, nickel, white sand, kaolin and graphite. Main industries include bauxite, sugar, textiles, rice milling, timber, fishing and gold mining. |
